Samsung Top-Load Washer Recall November 2016

Important notice to our customers! On November 4th, Samsung Electronics America, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, issued a voluntary recall of select Samsung top-load washing machines.

Samsung issued the recall after receiving reports that the drum in the washer may become lose, resulting in excessive vibrations that lead to the top separating from the washer chassis (see image below). According to Samsung, separation of the top is most likely to occur during the high-speed spin cycle used for bedding, water-resistant or bulk items.

The recall involves 34 Samsung top-load washer models, which includes about 2.8 million units. To date, Samsung has received 733 reports of machines experiencing excessive vibration or the top detaching, and 9 related reports of injuries ranging from broken jaws to injured shoulders.

How to Check if Your Samsung Washer Qualifies for the 2016 Recall

To ensure the safety of your family, all Samsung top-load washer owners should verify if their Samsung washer has been affected by the recall. Front load washers are not affected by this recall.

To verify if your model is included in the recall, locate the model and serial number on the back of the machine. Type the Model and Serial number into the Samsung recall checker here or call Samsung at 866-264-5636 between 8 am and 10 pm (ET), Monday – Sunday to check if your model is affected.

How to Claim the Samsung Washer Recall

If your washer is affected by the recall, you will be offered two options:

• Receive a free in-home repair on your washer. A Samsung Factory Certified technician will reinforce the washer’s top. Customers who choose in-home repair will receive a free 1-year extension on the manufacturer’s warranty, regardless of the age of the machine.
• Receive a rebate that can be applied to a purchase of a new Samsung washer or brand of your choice, plus free installation and removal of the old unit.
