Common Dishwasher Repair Problems
Dishwasher is Noisy
A noisy dishwasher might not sound like the end of the world until you can hear it running from across the house. Follow these steps to determine if your noisy dishwasher requires a simple DIY fix or if you may need to call in an experienced professional.
Deformed Water Inlet Valve
The water inlet valve feeds water into the dishwasher. If it is old or particularly worn, the diaphragm inside of the valve can become deformed. Sometimes a deformed valve diaphragm can be the cause of a noisy dishwasher and needs to be replaced by a professional.
Damaged Wash Impeller
If your dishwasher is noisy, this can be the result of a damaged wash impeller. Either the impeller is warped and bent, or one of the impeller blades may be broken. Thoroughly inspect the wash impeller for damage. If you cannot easily access this part we recommend calling an experienced dishwasher repair Scottsdale professional.
Worn Circulation Pump Motor
The bearings inside of your dishwasher’s circulation pump motor are susceptible to normal wear and tear. The motor bearings may eventually fail, producing a continuous droning sound from inside your dishwasher. Unfortunately, once the motor bearing fails, you must replace the circulation pump motor in its entirety.
Clogged Drain Pump or Hose
Check to see if your drain pump is obstructed with debris. This may lead to a noisy dishwasher since the drain pump uses an impeller to force water through the drain hose. Clean the drain pump and hose, inspect it for damage. If either part is broken, it will need to be replaced.
Dishwasher Not Cleaning?
When your dishwasher isn’t cleaning as well as it used to, you want to do everything that you can to restore its original cleaning power. Use the following troubleshooting tips to get to the root of the problem quickly.
Damaged Water Inlet Valve
The water inlet valve feeds water directly into your dishwasher. If it becomes clogged, the dishwasher will not receive enough water to properly clean your dishes. Check the valve for blockages and other damage. If it is damaged, the water inlet valve should be replaced by a professional technician.
Clogged Wash Arm
The wash arm circulates water inside of the dishwasher to your clean dishes. If the arm’s small holes become clogged with food particles and debris, it will begin to malfunction. Remove the arm and carefully dislodge any food debris. If the wash arm is particularly dirty, it may need to be replaced.
Broken Wash Impeller
The motor uses the wash impeller to drive water into the dishwasher, up through the spray arm. If the impeller is damaged or obstructed, the dishwasher may not receive enough water to clean your dishes. Thoroughly inspect the wash impeller for damage. Depending on your brand of dishwasher, you may be able to replace just the impeller to get your unit back up and cleaning in no time.
Defective Pump and Motor Assembly
The pump and motor work with the wash impeller to drive water into the dishwasher, up through the wash arm. Your dishes won’t be adequately cleaned if one part of the motor is cracked or defective. Have a professional inspect the pump and motor for damage.
Dishwasher Not Draining?
Let’s be honest – if you open your dishwasher and find a puddle of murky, smelly water backed up in the bottom of it, you’re going to have questions. Our experienced dishwasher repair Scottsdale professionals have compiled a list of answers for – Why is my dishwasher not draining?
Clogged Garbage Disposal
If your garbage disposal is clogged, your dishwasher won’t drain either. Locate the dishwasher drain hose and remove it from the garbage disposal. Inspect the fittings for blockages and remove them if necessary. Put everything back together, and run the garbage disposal to get rid of any air gaps.
Blocked Drain Valve
You’ll need to pull out the front kick panel to access the drain valve underneath the dishwasher. The drain valve can get clogged with food and other debris with normal use. Thoroughly inspect and clean out the valve. Repeat this process at least once a year to avoid the need for dishwasher repair in Scottsdale.
Defective Drain Pump
The drain pump and impeller in your unit run water through the drain hose and keeps your dishwasher from overflowing. If the pump motor stops working, the dishwasher won’t drain. Sometimes, the pump motor will receive incoming power but won’t run. If you have a defective drain pump, it needs to be replaced by a professional technician.
Worn or Broken Water Pump Belt
Some dishwashers use belt-driven water pumps to drain dishwater. A damaged or worn-out water pump belt could be the reason that your dishwasher won’t drain. Look up your dishwasher model or have one of our trained repair experts help you determine if your unit has a water pump belt. If so, thoroughly inspect it for damage.
Dishwasher is Leaking
When your dishwasher springs a leak, you don’t have much time to waste. Trust the dishwasher repair Scottsdale service professionals to locate the root cause and avoid costly repairs due to water damage. Read the common reasons for a leaky dishwasher that our repair experts run across daily.
Faulty Water Inlet Valve
If your dishwasher is leaking while running, there may be an issue with the water inlet valve. The valve may be stuck open, allowing too much water to enter into your dishwasher, causing it to overflow and leak. Locate the valve and inspect it for damage, replace if it is faulty.
Torn or Damaged Door Gasket
Check your dishwasher door gasket for dirt, tears, and other signs of wear. A torn door gasket could lead to a leaky dishwasher because the door won’t seal properly. Clean the door gasket and inspect it for damage. If it’s damaged, have an experienced professional replace it for you.
Damaged Door Hinges
Check your dishwasher door seal and hinges for dirt, tears, and other signs of wear. If the hinges are bent, the door may not be closing completely, causing your dishwasher to leak through the door. Inspect and replace the hinges if needed to prevent future leaks.
Cracked Wash Arm Assembly
The wash arm circulates water in your dishwasher using a spinning motion. If this part cracks, it may spray water towards the dishwasher door instead, creating a gradual leak. Remove the wash arm and inspect it for cracks. If it is defective, it will need to be replaced.
