Common Dryer Repair Problems
Dryer Not Heating Up
Most dryer not heating problems are airflow issues. Proper airflow is needed for dry hot air to enter and remove cold wet air. Here are a few places to check for blocked airflow:
Dirty Lint Trap
Clean the lint trap after every load of laundry. If you use dryer sheets, an invisible film may develop over the screen.
To verify if this is the problem, run the trap under water. If if the water doesn’t flow, clean the trap with soap and water until it does. Contact our dryer repair Scottsdale experts if that doesn’t fix the problem.
Kinked Air Duct
Check the air duct behind your dryer for pinches, kinks, or crimps. This can happen when the dryer is pushed too close to the wall.
The air duct also collects lint that bypasses the lint trap. Disconnect and clean the duct with a vacuum to prevent any dryer not heating issues.
Blocked Outside Vent
Check the outside vent for blockages. This will decrease airflow to your dryer, leading to no heat. The vent can be blocked by objects placed against the wall, lint, or even a bird nest!
Remove the blockage to restore airflow to your dryer. If this doesn’t solve the problem, contact our local dryer repair Scottsdale technicians.
Dryer Makes Loud Noises
Noise is the number one complaint about dryers. Typically, the noise is caused by vibration. Fortunately, there are a few easy ways to reduce vibration.
Dryer Sits Too High
Raise the feet on your dryer as much as possible to set it lower to the floor. This reduces potential vibration. The closer the dryer is to the floor, the less noisy it will be.
Unbalanced Dryer
Use a level to ensure that your dryer is level. Even a minor imbalance can lead to a dryer banging or squeaking. Raise or lower the feet to make your dryer level if it is not.
Dryer Obstructed
Vibration is magnified by contact with other objects including washers, walls, or cleaning tools. If your dryer is too close to any of these items, it may make a banging noise. Clear the surrounding area to stop the dryer banging noise.
Dryer Vibrates
If none of these solutions fix your vibrating dryer, check you local hardware store for vibration pads. They are designed to absorb the kinetic energy of vibration and reduce noise.
Dryer Takes Too Long
If your dryer takes too long to dry clothes or requires more than one cycle, there is most likely a problem. This common issue is often a simple fix. However, sometimes a professional dryer repair Scottsdale technician is needed.
Air Flow Problem
Air flow to your dryer will be restricted if the dryer vent is clogged. This in turn causes long dry times or you clothes will come out of the dryer still damp.
Clear lint from the trap after each load, and clean the dryer vent system once or twice per year, depending upon use.
Blower Wheel Obstruction
The dryer blower wheel pulls air into the drum. As long as the blower wheel is clear, it should turn freely. However, if lint, socks, or other small items get caught in the blower wheel, it won’t turn properly. This or a worn out blower wheel sleeve can cause your dryer takes too long issue.
Inspect the blower wheel for obstructions. Remove them and test the dryer again.
Moisture Sensor Malfunction
The dryer moisture sensor senses how wet or dry your clothes are while in the dryer. It signals the control board that the clothes are dry. If it malfunctions, it could fail to sense that your clothing is in fact dry, causing the dryer to take too long.
The moisture sensor will need to be replaced if it is defective.
